What We Believe
As Baptists we are Christians first and foremost, and members of the worldwide Christian family. The concept of a family is important, and we think of the church not so much as a particular place or building, but rather a family of believers, committed to Christ, to one another and to the service of God in the world.
Our basis of faith is as follows:
- We believe in the eternal, all-powerful and all-knowing Holy God, creator of heaven and earth.
- We believe in the trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each eternal, and equally worthy of our worship.
- We believe that Jesus Christ was both God and man in perfect combination. That He was born of a virgin, and died on a cross to pay the price for our sins.
- We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to the Father, and will one day return again to judge the world.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit is the means by which God works in the world. Convicting men and women of their disobedience, He lives in the hearts of believers, cleansing them of their sins and assuring them of their place in God's kingdom.
- We believe that the only way for someone to enter the kingdom of God is through personal faith in Jesus Christ, seeking forgiveness for their sins, and asking for the gift of the Holy Spirit to come and live in them.
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and is for teaching and guiding the believer, through the direction of the Holy Spirit.
- We believe that the Church is to be the visible presence of God on Earth. That its purpose is to proclaim the good news of Jesus by all possible means, to train disciples and to care for people.
- We believe that the Church is made up of believers and that each local church is free, under the authority of God, to determine the purpose of Christ for its own life and work.
- We believe that the sacraments of the Church are the baptism of believers, normally by immersion, and the Lord's Supper, both of which were ordained by Christ.
